Of her work, Grace da Costa has said: ‘The exploration of the plastic qualities of the medium, be it oil or wax, is important. Contradiction, the play between realism and abstract, impasto and glazes, light and dark, brutal and sensitive, textures, sensuality, mood and emotions. Some works are easy, others a struggle - one thing leading to the next, until the whole appears.
Da Costa qualified and worked as a Graphic Designer for 18 years. She started painting and sculpting in protest against the restrictions imposed by computer technology. Her works form part of collections locally and abroad and have been exhibited in various galleries.
