Ruhan Janse van Vuuren
Ruhan Janse van Vuuren works with the Human figure as a vestigial sign. His voice is fresh within the South African art scene as he strips away the parameters that define the young Afrikaner. Working within the parameter of Afrikaner stereotypes the individual becomes representative of the whole and Janse van Vuuren manages a transition from stereotype to archetype with aesthetic grace. He builds an Afrikaner mythology of mundanity that echoes a realism of social profundity. He makes use of models showing the human condition of the imperfect. Leaving the material unpolished, broken and with rough surfaces he tries to give true meaning to the material used.
Ruhan Janse van Vuuren has participated in various group exhibitions in Gauteng and the Western Cape, and in 2004 was the winner of the Technical Excellence in Concrete Sculpture category of the PPC Young Concrete Sculptor Awards.
