Carla Liesching’s The Swimmers are to be included in a carefully curated group show, Lens: fractions of contemporary photography and video in South Africa at University of Stellenbosch, 12 May - 23 July 2011.
The aim of the exhibition is to curate a collection of old and new work produced by South African lenses that not only aesthetically correlate but also have connection in the choice of subject matter. The main focus of the exhibition will parallel certain modules taught in Visual Studies at the Stellenbosch University, regarding Utopian/Dystopian qualities of the lens (photographic and video art) in South Africa.
